Vaccination Flexibility With Scour Bos Fits Variety Of Management Styles

As part of a mixed animal practice in Barren County, Kentucky, Dr. Steve Webb, DVM, works with cow-calf operations of all sizes and management styles. Some of his clients prefer a low or no management style for their herds, meaning they have no set breeding or calving season. For Dr. Webb, Scour Bos® offers valuable benefits in these situations.
“Scour Bos has such a great spectrum of protection and so much usage flexibility that it works great even in low management herds where you often don’t know the reproductive status of the cow,” says Webb. “Some of the other products on the market have fairly limited vaccination windows. We don’t have that problem with Scour Bos. As long as the cow is bred, I can go in with Scour Bos and we’ll see results.”
Webb knows firsthand the power of Scour Bos from his experiences on his own 75-head beef operation. “When I started having some scours problems, I used a good Scour Bos vaccination protocol. It was the only significant management change I made and it just seemed to shut the disease down. The next season, I had no problems.”
Vaccinating for scours brings big economic benefits to cow-calf producers. “If you save 4 or 5 calves a year by using Scour Bos, that’s 4 or 5 calves you’re not going to have to treat and 4 or 5 more live calves you can sell in the fall. That’s pretty economically significant,” explains Webb.
For Webb, the two best benefits of Scour Bos are its flexible application window and the broad spectrum of pathogens covered by the vaccine. “Scour Bos contains the strains for the bugs we deal with locally and seems to be very effective,” says Webb. “With lots of vaccination flexibility it doesn’t get much better than Scour Bos in my opinion.”
